Every licensed contractor with employees files a certificate naming the carrier. Added up, those certificates are the contractor comp market: 118,291 policies on file across 50 carriers with 300 or more. The top of the list is who a producer is replacing; each carrier page shows its renewal calendar, its trades and the counties where it holds the most.

State Fund is the carrier of last resort and, for contractors, often the carrier of first resort too: roofing, framing and any account with a rough loss history lands there. Its policyholders are the largest single pool of accounts that a producer with a competing market can move. The specialty comp carriers below it, Pie, ICW, AmTrust's companies, Employers, Omaha National, are the ones fighting for the clean small accounts, and their renewals are where most producer outreach concentrates. Each carrier page shows the month-by-month renewal curve for its book, the trades it holds, and the counties where it is heaviest.
